PurposeChinese art is done with the purpose of painting the outer form of the subject while incorporating the inner form of the subject. The inner form being the essence or soul of the subject. For example, the painting above by Liang Kang doesn't emphasize the accuracy of the outer human form.

PurposeJapanese art is done with the purpose of embracing spontaneity as well as individuality. There are many similarities with Chinese painting, however those differences would become more prominent when the nation would isolate itself from the world from the 17th century to the 19th century

Other NotesChinese artists does not like to add color or any type of shading to their paintings, due to their belief that color and shading is a distraction.

Other NotesJapanese artists combined traditional Chinese ink and brushwork techniques, however they included patterns and bright colors which made the paintings very decorative.
